As mentioned in our last post, the number of stellar titles at E3 2013 was incredible. The show had something for almost everyone: first person shooters, racing simulators, JRPGs, and even some throw back side scrolling action for nostalgic gamers like me. The ASTRO team was everywhere and got to try pretty much everything. Since the team got to try out so many titles I thought I would let them share their highlights.

    Sonic at E3

    Cole “Siege” Lovelady –

This was my first E3, and what a way to soak up the industry first hand. My head was spinning from all the new IPs, next-gen console announcements, peripheral goodness, giant statues, and crazy costumes. I was thankful that I had the experienced ASTRO Gaming Crew there to help show me the ropes. To open the show, EA gave us early access to film to review some of their best upcoming titles: Battlefield 4, Need For Speed Rivals, and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (PvZ Rules!). I spent the second day focused on trying to get hands on with Ghosts, Destiny, Wolfenstein, The Division, Assassins Creed 4, Watchdogs, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy. I was definitely feeling like I needed more time to see everything as they day was coming to a close. On the final day of the show, I made sure to spend some quality time with the ever so brutal, RYSE. I also got to finally get some time with the new XBOX ONE. What did I think? To sum it up, I’m sold. Microsoft, just take my money already! The final experience that is definitely noteworthy, was a flashback to the good old days with DuckTales remastered!

    Cris “Soup” Lee –

Battlefront. When they showed that teaser at the EA Press Conference, that was the one and only thing on my mind the entire show. DICE + Star Wars = WANT.

    Walter “Xariun” Duccini –

I didn’t get to spend much time on the floor, but a few of the new titles that stood out for me amongst the chaos that is E3 were: Project Spark, Titanfall, and Dragon Age: Inquisition. I’m definitely excited to play around with each of these as they all appeal to different parts of my nerdy nature.

     Blog_645x430_E3_2013_2

    Nick “Nickerfoo” Pitts –

Three things stick out in my mind: The first is Battlefield 4. Although we were playing on an Alpha build, it is exciting to know I will have a new game this holiday season on which to waste copious amounts of time. Seeing it in such early stages also makes me anxious to see what changes are implemented come release. I am also keeping an eye on is The Division. It seemingly came out of nowhere and was one of the most appealing games at E3. I’m excited about everything from visually on a new engine to their great work with cross platform gaming (console and mobile working together). Last but not least is the new Metal Gear Solid; it looks like the most visually appealing game I have ever seen. The new Fox engine can do amazing things; pair that with the ultimate storytelling and direction from Kojima and I don’t think anyone will be let down.

    Thadeous “Sly” Cooper –

In rapid fire order: Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix because I am a total Kingdom Hearts fanboy. Battlefield 4 because I played it at the show and someone dropped a freaking building on me! Battlefront, I didn’t see it, no one has played it but if you put Star Wars and Battlefield together and they make sweet love you end up with me giving you all my money. Watch Dogs looks gritty and visceral, it makes my legs hurt every time I see the main character kneecap someone with his tactical baton. Fantasia: Music Evolved I really can’t explain it I just really enjoyed it and want to play it again!

    Blog_645x430_E3_2013_1

    Enrique “Oz” Espinoza –

As always, E3 put on a great show this year with the return of the console wars, new game engines and teasers for what we should be expecting in the future. EA held the spotlight on the floor which included great titles such as Battlefield 4 and a new Xbox One exclusive, Titanfall. Xbox and Playstation were side to side bringing in an audience to experience the new consoles for themselves featuring new demos and game updates. Ubisoft introduced The Division and impressed everyone with gameplay features such as graphics, mechanics and ability to join games through a mobile device. This years E3 was not disappointing and gave us a taste of what we will be expecting this holiday season.

    Andreas “Nexy” Pierson –

With all the publishers and developers trying to grab your attention over the three hot days in LA, E3 can be pretty overwhelming at times. It’s fun to adventure and get lost in the sea of interactive visual/audio ecstasy. However, I find it crucial to drop an anchor somewhere on the floor to call home.

That booth, for me, was EA’s Battlefield 4 64 station setup. The 32 vs 32 competition was being hosted and casted by ASTRO’s competitive gaming friends, Corey Dunn and Goldenboy.  Additionally, ASTRO Gaming’s very own Lisa Malambri played video personality for all of EA’s live-streamed content throughout the weekend. I even made a new friend in Aleksander Grondal, Multiplayer Producer for Battlefield 4,  who graciously gave us an exclusive interview to answer some of our questions. Between the familiar, smiling faces and the unbelievable 64 man carnage happening before my eyes, I couldn’t of found a better place to rest between adventures.

That wraps up our staff picks for E3. Come back Friday for a pretty big announcement from the ASTRO Gaming crew!

When the ASTRO team went up to E3 this year I expected to land in the middle of an all-out console war. I expected to spend my first few days playing with the new hardware, trying to extract any information I could. I thought my days would be spent taking pictures of the display models and talking to Sony and Microsoft reps. I’m not a very good planner, I cannot see the future, and next-gen consoles were definitely not the driving force behind E3 2013.

    Wide shot of E3

Software was king at this year’s show. Talk of new consoles, DRM, and constant connectivity did permeate the scene, but the buzz was being generated by some outstanding titles: Watchdogs, TITANFALL, Battlefield 4, Destiny, Call of Duty: Ghost, Disney Infinity, Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear. I could easily go on, but carpal tunnel would set in long before I finished. I know it sounds like hyperbole, but in truth the show floor was saturated with games that could easily have taken home the Best of E3 title any other year.

One of the greatest things about E3 2013 for the ASTRO team was the fact that ASTRO A40 & A30 systems were being used to demo some of our favorite titles: Battlefield 4, Need for Speed: Rivals, Duck Tales Remastered, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix, to name a few.

    Destiny Floor Presentation at E3

Over the next few days we will be showing off some of our top picks from E3 2013, and in the end, giving away a huge bag of swag that we complied. If you were not able to make the show or if you did go but didn’t feel like standing in line forever for t-shirts and stickers, we have your hook-up. Keep checking back here for the ASTRO team recap of E3 and to find out how to win tons of gaming swag

ASTRO has led the way in gaming with innovative technology, grass roots support, and groundbreaking personalization since they day we started. Our culture is new, still taking it’s shape, with old school stereotypes finally biting the dust.  As gamers, our competitive nature makes us passionate and zealous creatures, who strive to win. But, it’s a healthy competition that does not divide us. In turn, it brings opposing creeds and corners of the world together. Ones who may have never taken notice to each other, had it not been for their shared love of gaming. We are a community, but there is no denying we still pride ourselves in independence, creativity, and style. Those are some of the same traits that make our favorite video games so much fun! At ASTRO we celebrate these differences, embrace the ever changing industry, and push to grow with our community.

Since the release of our BXR editions and the Saints Row 3 styles, fans have been clamoring for a wider palette of the ASTRO A40s. Well have no fear, cause the NEON Ninjas are here!  Today we bring you the highly anticipated refresh, with the A40 NEON Color Series. The NEONS join our A40 family with a BANG, as the four most requested colors – Pink, Yellow, Orange and Red.

Can Neon Colors Improve Gaming Performance?

“ASTRO Gaming has one of the most passionate fan bases in the gaming industry and we’ve always paid close attention to their suggestions for product improvement – it’s a critical part of how we’ve maintained our edge, delivering technologically superior, professionally performing and cutting-edge products year after year after year. While there is currently no conclusive scientific evidence that Neon Colors can improve gaming performance there is no question that any player sporting a new set of Neon A40s is going to stand out in a crowd and may even distract a few opposing players!” - Aron Drayer, Director of Marketing.

The ASTRO Crew arrived in Boston greeted by freezing cold snow, but nothing could stop us from enjoying the legendary Penny Arcade Expo East. This is ASTRO’s 7th consecutive PAX event as the official headset, and once again we’ve documented the chaos with daily video recaps, hosted by @LisaMalambri. On the eve of PAX our crew began setting up the ASTRO booth and gearing our partners up with custom speaker tags and headsets. Soon the once empty show floor turned into a kingdom of awesome, teaming with fans, drawn by the lure of free swag and a glimpse at their next favorite game. Let’s kick it off with our first video recap:

Day one in Boston was wicked awesome. PAX was full of some real colorful characters and we snapped photos of the best Cosplayers on the scene; setting them up into teams that battled it out for our Facebook fan’s respect- Who won the fight?   …[drumroll]…

    ASTRO Cosplay

TEAM 2 is victorious! Congratulations and thanks for all the votes! PAX never ceases to amaze with truly creative fans and always impressive cosplay.  Keep up the good work!

At the ASTRO booth, fans experienced ASTRO Audio with premier titles like: Zombie Studio’s upcoming Daylight, Konami’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and EA’s Dead Space 3.  Fans also participated in several contests featuring : World of Tanks speaker tags and in-game currency, Kontrol Freek prizes, Wizards of the Coast products and ASTRO headsets. All our game stations were outfitted with Scuf Gaming controllers, and we gave away several controllers to loyal fans. The ASTRO booth acted as a meeting place, chill spot, and general hang out hub for many. Fans and crew alike lounged with friends, met YouTube celebs, or just get caught up on some z’s, @LoLDyrus !

Lisa kicked off day two at PAX with a walk through of Cryptic Studios new game Dungeon & Dragons: Neverwinter, a free to play action MMO. Then Soup followed up with Signal Studios, to get the download on their new free to play MMO Ascend: New Gods. It all ended in the ECA battle arena where Lisa brutally beat down Soup and claimed victory as ultimate host.

For the third and final day of PAX, Lisa got up bright and early to check out Dust 514, another awesome free to play MMO (noticing a trend here?) where you can interact with players from Eve Online. Pretty rad. We ended our game coverage with a special guest, Gold Glove, who discussed Execution Mode and grenade load out in Gears of War: Judgement.

Your PAX experience just wouldn’t be complete without the Pro team meet & greet. We all got to chill in the ASTRO booth and party with our newly sponsored teams, Evil Geniuses and TSM Snapdragon.  The teams were both big hits and we are excited for the upcoming competitions and blossoming partnerships. The ASTRO Booth really is the coolest spot to kick back and enjoy everything that PAX is, and has to offer. Thanks again to all our partners, crew, fans, and new friends for makin’ it happen. What a ride…

  9. MLG DALLAS 2013 – WINTER CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

Here’s a Call of Duty recap by Nexy, who joined our pro teams at MLG Dallas:

Both of ASTRO Gaming’s premier Call of Duty squads, OpTic Gaming and EnvyUs, entered the MLG Dallas tournament with hopes to place within the Top 8 teams. Placing this high would grant them access to the exclusive Million Dollar International Tournament hosted by Treyarch. Each team came prepared to battle through the rigorous Open Bracket tournament compared to some of their peers who’ve already pre-qualified for the desirable Championship Bracket. With the odds and 15 potential rounds of Open Bracket series stacked against them, both squads quickly got to work.

It was OpTic Gaming who exploded from start, while not dropping a single game, advanced 6 consecutive rounds before finding themselves among the higher-tier opponents who’ve been waiting for them in the Championship bracket. OpTic Gaming continued their trend in the new bracket and on the MLG Main Stage versus two more Professional teams until they bumped into MLG’s second place champions, UNITE, who knocked them into the Losers Bracket.

Meanwhile, EnvyUs, had done just the same along side OpTic Gaming in the Open Bracket while only dropping a single game. They stomped through the pit, even counting an incredible 2-0 sweep versus CompLexity Gaming who later in the weekend knocked OpTic Gaming out of the the tournament. However, early in the Championship Bracket, EnvyUs suffered an hiccup by losing to MLG Dallas’ first place champions, Fariko Impact. Now EnvyUs would have to run a gauntlet of teams in the Losers Bracket to earn their spot at the Million Dollar tournament.

They did just that. EnVyUs bounced back with fury from their meeting with Fariko to dismantle four of North America’s best Call of Duty teams in a row.

OpTic Gaming and EnvyUs’ stellar performances from the bottom of the MLG Open Bracket all the deep into the Championship Bracket has secured them each a spot in the Call of Duty Million Dollar Tournament in Hollywood, this April. We are excited to see what adjustments each squad will make before competing in ASTRO’s honor once again.
