Every so often there are events that go beyond our usual tournaments and tradeshows. Events that help us remember that some things are more important than those activities that we get wrapped up with on a daily basis. Gamers for Giving is one of those events. Gamers for Giving is an event ran by the game industry charity organization, Gamers Outreach Foundation. The event features video game tournaments, special industry guests, and a variety of gaming activities and competitions for event participants. Profits from the Gamers for Giving event are used to support Gamers Outreach initiatives. Most notable of these initiatives are their custom designed portable gaming kiosks for use at Mott Children’s Hospital, along with an initiative to send games abroad to help support our troops who are deployed overseas . These portable kiosks allow hospital staff members to easily transport video games and other sources of entertainment to patients who are immobile or stuck in bed for long periods of time.

ASTRO Gaming has supported the Gamers Outreach Foundation for the past two years during the Gamers for Giving event. This year we geared up each of the tournament stations with MixAmps so that competitors in the Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, and the 2v2 Play with the Pros events could take advantage of some of the core features that the MixAmp provides: the instantaneous voice communication network, and the Dolby Digital surround sound processing. There are always a few treats that we experience at these events. The biggest is watching the gaming community come together for a great cause: pro players, sponsors, and a wide variety of volunteers working to help make the experience for the participants unforgettable. In turn, they are helping to raise the much needed funds to support the aforementioned initiatives.

One of the other fun aspects of this event was the completely new audience of folks who had never seen a video game tournament before that happened to stumble upon the event in the middle of the Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, MI. They were caught off guard by the spectacle of what a video game tournament looks like, along with the passion and excitement that comes from the participants. There aren’t really words to describe the face someone makes when they are going for a soft pretzel and are met with groups of people yelling and cheering while both playing, and watching someone else play a video game in the middle of their local mall.

Congrats go out to the “Michiganimals” and “Two Yellow Dragons” teams who won the Modern Warfare 2, and Halo 3 tournaments respectively. Additional thanks go out to the organizers, volunteers, participants, other sponsors, and everyone else that help continue to make this event great year after year. We love being a part of this event, and we’ll see you all next year!

Two awesome things come together. The A30 Cross-Gaming Headset and Penny-Arcade Expo.

Yep, you heard me. We are the Official Headset Provider for PAX 2010 and to show our PAX love, we’ve outfitted every single free-play LAN PC with our newly released A30 Headsets. We threw a couple A40s in there too so you can check both out.

So it goes like this. If you’re coming to PAX East and want to try out the A30 Headset, just head up to the 3rd Level and check out the free-play LAN PCs. Crank up your choice of a ton of PC games and go nuts.

Then, look for our banner and look for our little gift to PAX attendees. You can’t miss it.

Oh, and if you happen to spot the two guys running around the expo floor wearing A30s with ASTRO t-shirts, that’d be me and Wally. Feel free to say hi! We’d love to meet some of you.

    Cheers,

There’s nothing like an MLG championship weekend to completely blow you away with upsets, insanity, and great times.

To start the craziness of the weekend, Florida greeted us with ridiculous frosty lows of 35ºF and even lower wind-chill temperatures. Thankfully the magic of Weather.com helped us come prepared to battle the frozen tundra that was Orlando. Really, we’re not exaggerating.

Despite the record breaking low temperatures, ASTRO Gaming came to MLG Orlando with two of our latest releases, the Scout Backpack and Headset Stand. Both premiered at the ASTRO booth for the first time and completely sold out. We just might have to bring some more next time, don’t you think?

Also new to the ASTRO booth was MLG’s first female pro, Xena who has joined our elite group of ASTRO girls. Be sure to stop by and say hi, maybe even challenge her to a little bit of Halo 3 next time!

The ridiculousness didn’t stop there with some of the biggest upsets seen in MLG history. We’ll let the MLG guys give you all of the championship recaps here. Congrats to our friends in Believe The Hype for taking 1st place in Halo 3 and THE NSAN3Z for winning 1st place in Gears of War 2!

We at Astro Gaming want to extend a huge thanks to our friends at Gunnar Optiks, Dr. Pepper, SEGA and especially every single person at MLG for an amazing 2009 season. If MLG 2010 is half as much fun as this past year, we absolutely can’t wait.

See all of you next season,

    - ASTRO Stanimal (aka. Stan)

This past Monday night, there was no shortage of awesomeness surrounding the launch of Modern Warfare 2 and ASTRO Gaming was there at the Launch Party at the West LA Best Buy.

Activision was generous enough to bring out MW2 early so everyone could rock out the new Spec Ops multiplayer mode before release. Each Xbox 360 station was beautifully outfitted with the A40 Mixamp and two A40 Headsets linked by our powered splitters. There really isn’t a better way to experience Spec Ops on split-screen. In fact, Scott Lowe from IGN says almost the very same thing in IGN’s Modern Warfare 2 Ultimate Setup.

Sure, NYC had cool stuff too – helicopters, sports stars, Ice-T, fourzerotwo, probably lasers or something ridiculous too. But you know what? We had tanks, APCs and ASTROs too! We also had most of the Infinity Ward crew stop by and sign posters, MW2 covers and whatever else you wanted them to sign. In fact, the IW team was kind enough to sign a few extra items for us so we can give them away to all our loyal ASTRO friends.

Stay tuned on our Twitter and Facebook for MW2 giveaways and our shenanigans in the very near future.
